Iconic bar in Regensburg seeks successor to take over the business

I am looking for a new owner for my pub/bar in Regensburg. The pub opened in 2003, and I took it over in February 2008. After 18 years, however, it’s time for me to move on to something new, so I’m looking for a successor who will take over the bar for a transfer fee. The bar is located in the heart of Regensburg’s Old Town; the cathedral and the Steinerne Brücke are each just 5–8 minutes away, and the Fischmarkt bus stop is right around the corner. The bar is just as popular with tourists as it is with its large number of regulars. Currently, this unique 12th-century vaulted cellar can seat approximately 65 people. The commercial space measures 100 m², which includes the main room, bar area, cocktail nook, kitchen, small alcove, men’s and women’s restrooms, dry storage, cold storage, and a small storage room. The existing license is for a bar serving light meals; however, it does not permit the preparation of foods that produce grease fumes (such as frying or deep-frying). An outdoor seating area in the alley can also be applied for under this license. The bar is leased from a private owner and is being offered for lease only. The transfer fee will be negotiated with me, the current tenant; I am happy to hand over the entire inventory, including the business name and all rights. Additionally, various social media accounts can be transferred. The business concept can, of course, be modified and expanded as desired; I look forward to finding a motivated successor.

Buying a company vs. buying a firm

Buying a company means acquiring an independent organizational unit that regularly carries out an economic activity. A company can consist of one or several business operations. An individual can also found such an independent unit if they regularly carry out an economic activity — in that case it is called a sole proprietorship. As a rule, sole proprietors don't have to register in the commercial register; without that registration, they don't legally count as a "firm." A trade name, colloquially a "firm," is the name under which a company or sole proprietor appears publicly and conducts its business. Buying "a firm" therefore technically means acquiring the company's name or trading name. In everyday use, though, it's used interchangeably with buying a company — i.e. acquiring the entire business.
