SMEs - Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises
Small and medium-sized enterprises are a cornerstone of the German economy. The definition of an SME—or small to medium-sized enterprise—is determined by the number of employees and revenue. According to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, companies are classified as follows:
A microenterprise is defined as having up to 9 employees and annual revenue of up to 2 million euros.
Small enterprisesare those with up to 49 employees and annual revenue of up to 10 million euros.
Medium-sized enterprises have up to 249 employees and a maximum annual revenue of 50 million euros.
