Long List
The long list plays an important role in the sale of a company. The long list refers to the initial shortlist of potential buyers who are eligible for succession and may be interested in the sale process. Potential buyers are selected for the long list based on strict criteria, with the initial selection focusing on all interested parties who show promise of success. These criteria include factors such as the buyer’s financial strength, expertise in the relevant business sector, or the relevance of the brand.
Once selected, all interested parties gain access to confidential information about the company and can delve into further details of the agreement. The long list ensures that only suitable investors receive access to more detailed information and facilitates a smooth sales process for all parties involved. At the end of this process, only a few investors remain—the so-called short list.
